Patriot, the critically acclaimed dark comedy-drama series created by Steven Conrad, is primarily available to stream on Amazon Prime Video. Because it is an Amazon Studios original production, the complete two-season run remains housed within the Prime Video catalog for subscribers, though viewers can also purchase individual episodes or full seasons through digital storefronts depending on regional availability.
Understanding the Availability of Patriot
Navigating the landscape of modern streaming services can be frustrating, especially when exceptional television series change platforms or get caught in licensing limbo. For fans looking to watch or rewatch Patriot, the streaming situation is remarkably straightforward due to its status as an Amazon Original. However, understanding how to access the platform, what costs are involved, and what alternative purchasing options exist will ensure a smooth viewing experience.
When Amazon greenlit Patriot in the mid-2010s, the company established permanent streaming rights for its proprietary subscription service. Unlike licensed content that rotates between different competing networks—such as Netflix, Hulu, or Max—Amazon Originals typically remain tied to Prime Video indefinitely. This permanence provides stability for viewers, meaning you do not have to worry about the series suddenly disappearing at the end of a licensing window.
Core Streaming Platform: Amazon Prime Video
The definitive home for Patriot is Amazon Prime Video. To stream the series through this platform, viewers must have an active subscription. Amazon offers several ways to access Prime Video, accommodating different budget levels and membership preferences:
- Amazon Prime Membership: A standard annual or monthly Prime membership includes Prime Video alongside other benefits like free shipping, music streaming, and reading perks.
- Stand-Alone Prime Video Subscription: For users who only want streaming access without the retail benefits of Amazon Prime, a stand-alone video subscription is available in many regions at a lower monthly cost.
- Free Trials: New users or those who have not subscribed to Amazon Prime within a specific qualifying period can often utilize a 30-day free trial to watch the series without an immediate financial commitment.
Once logged into a supported device—ranging from smart TVs and streaming sticks like Roku, Fire TV, and Apple TV to mobile phones, tablets, and web browsers—users can simply search for "Patriot" to begin watching both Season 1 and Season 2 in high definition or 4K Ultra HD, depending on their playback equipment.
Alternative Digital Purchase Options
While an active subscription is the most cost-effective way to watch the entire series if you plan to take your time, alternative methods exist for viewers who prefer not to maintain a continuous streaming subscription or who live in regions with specific distribution quirks.
Major digital video storefronts—such as Apple TV (formerly iTunes) and Vudu (Fandango at Home) in the United States—frequently offer Patriot for digital purchase. Buying a season or the complete series grants you permanent access to stream those digital files through the respective retailer's app, independent of an Amazon Prime subscription.
| Access Method | Type of Service | Cost Structure | Best Suited For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Amazon Prime Video | Subscription Streaming | Monthly or annual fee (Free trial available) | Binge-watching the full series and exploring other Prime content. |
| Digital Storefronts (Apple TV, Vudu) | Digital Purchase (A La Carte) | Per-episode or per-season purchase price | Viewers who want permanent ownership without a recurring subscription. |
| Physical Media (DVD/Blu-ray) | Physical Ownership | One-time retail price (Availability varies) | Collectors and those with limited or unreliable internet connections. |
International Streaming Variations and Regional Licensing
Streaming availability can occasionally shift depending on your geographic location. While Patriot is an Amazon Original globally, local broadcasting rights, regional subsidiaries, or international content laws can occasionally alter how a show is accessed outside of the United States, the United Kingdom, and major European markets.
If you are attempting to watch Patriot from outside North America or Western Europe, it is advisable to open your local Amazon Prime Video app and use the search function. If the series is restricted in your specific country due to third-party licensing agreements held by local networks, the platform will typically display a notification or direct you to alternative regional providers. Always verify your local app store or digital marketplace to confirm if regional restrictions apply.
Technical Specifications and Playback Quality
To fully appreciate the stylistic choices of Patriot, including its deliberate cinematography, muted color palettes, and intricate acoustic soundtrack, ensuring proper playback settings is essential. Amazon Prime Video supports a variety of technical configurations depending on your hardware:
- Resolution: Both seasons are available in high definition (1080p), with select episodes and sequences optimized for 4K Ultra HD and High Dynamic Range (HDR) playback.
- Audio Formats: Standard stereo and 5.1 Dolby Digital surround sound options are available, which enhance the atmospheric dialogue and musical interludes characteristic of the show.
- Bandwidth Requirements: To stream smoothly in high definition, Amazon recommends a stable internet connection with a download speed of at least 5 megabits per second (Mbps), scaling up to 15 Mbps or higher for 4K streams.
